Description
Head and shoulders portrait of Thomas Denman inclined to the right as viewed and wearing regency-style clothes. In an octagonal frame surmounted by four cherubs [representing the virtues ?] and supported with iconography including an axe, sword, scroll, chains and scales. A swag of fabric inscribed with sitters name draped over the bottom of the frame.
Inscribed ‘THOMAS DENMAN, ESQ M.P. PUBLISHED MARCH 1 1821: BY T BOYS, 7 LUDGATE HILL. Engraved with permission by W.T. FRY.’ And pencilled ‘1833’.
Sir Thomas Denman, 1st Baron Denman (1779-1854) was a British judge, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1833.
