Description
Half-length portrait of John Dollond, seated at a table, wearing a coat, shirt and cravat. On the table is a volume of Opticks and a small-boxed lens resting on top, he holds a smaller lens in his left hand.
Inscribed ‘Engraved by J Posselwhite. DOLLOND. From an original Picture in the Royal Observatory, Greenwich’ and in pencil ‘1761 DOLLOND, John (2)’.
John Dollond (1706-1761) was a British instrument maker and optician, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society 1761.
