Description
Head and shoulders portrait of Francis Drake facing forward and looking over to the left as viewed. He wears a mid-length wig and is dressed in a single-breasted coat over a waistcoat and shirt.
Inscribed on separate paper pasted below ‘FRANCIS DRAKE F.R.S. Historian & Antiquary.’ Pencilled on paper support ‘1736’.
Francis Drake (1696-1771) was a British historian and antiquary, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1736.
