    Head and shoulders portrait of Henri Louis Duhamel du Monceau inclined to the right as viewed and looking back to viewer. He wears buckled wig with queue and is dressed in fine jacket with looped braid detail and a lace cravat. In an oval frame.

    Inscribed ‘Peint par Drouais fils Gravé par Ambroise Tardieu. Hy. Ls. DUHAMEL, SGR. Du MONCEAU, (Physicien, Botaniste, Physiologiste, et Agronome.) Membre de l’Académie des Sciences, Inspecteur Général de la Marine, Né à Paris le…… 1700. Mort à Paris le s3 Aout 1782.’

    Henri Louis Duhamel du Monceau (1700-1782) was a French physician, naval engineer and botanist, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1735.
