Head and shoulders portrait of George Edwards turned to the left and looking back at viewer. He wears mid-length curled wig and is dressed in doublet, waistcoats and necktie.
Inscribed on separate paper ‘GEORGE EDWARDS, F.R.S. F.S.A &c.’ and pencilled ‘1757’ on paper support.
George Edwards (1694-1773) was a British naturalist; he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1757.
