    Head and shoulders portrait of George James Welbore Agar Ellis, 1st Baron Dover facing forward and looking off to the right as viewed. He has short curled hair with side-whiskers and wears regency-style clothes with a pocket watch.

    Inscribed ‘Painted by T Philips R.A. Engraved by E Scriven. THE HONBLE GEORGE-JAMES-WELBORE AGAR ELLIS. M.P. F.R.S. F.A.S. FISHER SON & CO LONDON 1830’ facsimile signature below and pencilled ‘1816’.

    George James Welbore Agar Ellis, 1st Baron Dover (1797-1833) was a British politician, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1816.
