Head and shoulders portrait of Thomas Erskine in three-quarter profile to the right as viewed. He wears regency-style clothes of high collared jacket with cravat. Set in an interior with draped fabric and books in the back ground.
Inscribed ‘Engraved by R.Woodman. ERSKINE. From an original Picture by Hoppner in his Majesty’s Collection at Windsor’ and pencilled ‘1787’.
Sir Thomas Erskine, 1st Baron Erskine (1750-1823) was a British lawyer, politician and Lord Chancellor, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1787.
