Description

Zoological studies of varieties of the Goldfish (or Golden carp, with a bronze variation) Carassius auratus. Side views, the freshwater fishes are shown as in life, in a pond or aquarium setting.

The plate is inscribed below: ‘GOLDEN AND BRONZE CARP.’

The accompanying text states that: ‘The specimens figured were supplied by Mr. Masefield, of Ellerton Hall.’

William Houghton (1828-1895) British naturalist and clergyman, was a Fellow of the Linnean Society.
