Description
Bust of George Dollond with head in three-quarter profile to the left as viewed. In classical style with draped shoulders, he has short hair with side-whiskers. On a round marble socle.
George Dollond (1774-1852) was a British optician, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1819.

The donation is recorded in the Royal Society’s Council Minutes: ‘A letter from Mr Alfred Dollond, offering to present a bust of the late George Dollond, F.R.S., was read. The offer was accepted.’ Royal Society Minutes of Council, Printed, v.7 1892-98, meeting 19 Jan 1888, p.103.
