Pedestal inscribed ‘FARADAY 1791-1867’. Artist signature on the reverse.
Michael Faraday (1791-1867) was a British chemist and physicist, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1824.

The donation is recorded in the Royal Society’s Council Minutes, Volume 14 (Printed), 30 April 1936: ‘The Secretaries reported that Sir Robert Hadfield had presented to the Society a bronze bust of Michael Faraday by Mrs. Feridah Forbes and it was. Resolved - -That the thanks of the Society be returned to Sir Robert Hadfield for his gift.’
