Bust of William Spottiswode, head and partial shoulders. He is shown wearing a buttoned jacket and full beard.
Inscribed ‘WILLIAM SPOTTISWOODE, 1864’ on the lower front and ‘T. WOOLNER Sc LONDON.’ lower left side as viewed.
William Spottiswoode was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1853, he served as its President from 1878 to 1883.
