    Description
    Maquette of Newton seated on geometric blocks and folded forward with a pair of dividers in left hand. The figure is naked but mechanised in appearance with bolts and sections of bronze. The face is modelled after the artist.

    Inscribed on the base ‘NEWTON AFTER BLAKE E PAOLOZZI A I C2 1995’

    Isaac Newton was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1672, he served as its President from 1703 to 1727.

    The donation is recorded in the Royal Society Minutes of Council, minute 4.22, meeting 13 July 1995. [CMO/81]

    Copies and casts: Maquette to the full-scale bronze sculpture displayed on a high plinth in the piazza outside the British Library. Installed in 1995 and unveiled in 1997, it stands 12 foot tall.
