Bust of Samuel Cooper in classical style with draped shoulders. Evidence of repair to the neck.
Samuel Cooper (1780-1848) was a British surgeon, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1846.

Provenance: The bust probably entered the collection between 1980 and 1989.
An offer of the bust is recorded in the Officers’ minutes on 21 January 1926. ‘Minute 8. Letter from Miss E Farring offering a bust of Samuel Cooper, FRS. Agreed to thank Miss Farring for her offer and to suggest that the Royal College of Surgeons would be a more suitable recipient of the bust.’ OM/2/1/1.
The Dictionary of British Sculptors by Rupert Gunnis, new and revised edition, 1968, page 196, list the portrait in the collection of the Royal College of Surgeons.
