    Description
    Half-length portrait of King George I in his state robes. His portrait appears within an oval frame surrounded by ornamental plant forms. A group of three allegorical female figures is seen below in another oval frame. The state crown resting on a cushion separates the two frames.

    Inscribed below: ‘G. Kneller pinxit./At Kensington Palace./Impensis J & P Knapton, Londini./J Houbraken sculps. Amst. 1746.’

    George I, King of Great Britain and Ireland (1660 – 1727) was elected a Royal Patron of the Royal Society in 1727.
