Head and shoulders portrait of William Hey in three-quarter profile to the left as viewed. He is shown before a draped curtain with view of the Leeds Infirmary [?] in the distance on his left. He wears a buckled wig, high collared jacket and waistcoat. His left hand rests on a Holy Bible. He appears to be blind in his right eye.
Inscribed ‘W. Holl, sculp. William Hey, Esqr. F.R.S. Late senior surgeon to the Leeds Infirmary.’ and pencilled ‘£3-50.’ Further inscription on the reverse ‘ ae/- D 1913. 207. 1736-1819 William H- Senior Surgeon Leeds Infirmary 1773-1818. Mayor of Leeds.’
