    Description
    Study of the display cabinet from the nature theatre of Levinus Vincent, containing and exhibiting corals, sponges, seaweeds and other marine material. Below the cabinet, some loose specimens are arranged.

    Plate 3 from the book Elenchus tabularum, pinacothecarum, atque nonnullorum cimeliorum, in gazophylacio Levini Vincent, by Levinus Vincent (Haarlem, 1719).

    Inscribed above: ‘Pinac. 3. TAB. III’. The plate has no artist or engraver details.

    Accompanying text in Latin and French states that: ‘The third cabinet, which is painted in grey, is represented in plate 3. It is four feet and ten inches high without its base, four feet and eight inches in width, and with a depth of eighteen inches. It is adorned with mirrors and the display is composed of various marvellous sea-trees and plants and several branches of corals of different colours…’
