Description
Half-length profile portrait of King George III in a rectangular frame. He wears a buttoned-up jacket with a large medal featuring the cross of St George. The framed portrait it depicted against a large curtain surmounted by the state crown. Below the portrait is the royal coat of arms with four allegorical figures alongside a lion and a unicorn.
Inscribed: ‘George THE Third/Born June the 4th 1738 – Proclaimed King Octr the 25th 1760 – Died Jany the 29th 1820./Count Munster Pinxt/I Agar Sculpt/London, Published Feby 1, 1820, at R. Ackermann’s, 101 Strand,/and to be had of all the Book & Printsellers in Gt Britain.’
George III, King of Great Britain and Ireland (1738-1820) was elected a Royal Patron of the Royal Society in 1760.
