    Head and shoulders portrait of Benjamin Franklin in three-quarter profile to the left as viewed. He wears a fur hat and round spectacles. In an oval frame.

    Inscribed ‘BENJAMIN FRANKLIN, L.L.D. F.R.S.’ and pencilled ‘1756’ on paper support.

    Benjamin Franklin was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1756.
