Full-length portrait of Francis Grose seated in right profile. He wears three-quarter length coat with breeches and buckled shoes. He is occupied in reading a book or a journal.
Inscribed ‘FRANCIS GROSE, ESQR. F.R.S. & A.S. Author of the Antiquities of England & Wales, &c &c.’ and pencilled ‘not F.R.S.’
Francis Grose (1731-1791) Antiquary and draughtsman, he was not a Fellow of the Royal Society.
