    Half-length portrait of George James Guthrie, seated in three-quarter profile to the right as viewed. He wears regency-style clothes with a jacket with velvet lapels, high-collared shirt and dark cravat.

    Facsimile signature and inscribed ‘F.R.S.’

    George James Guthrie (1785-1856) British surgeon, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1827.
