Half-length portrait of John Haighton seated in three-quarter profile to the right, his hands are clasped in front and resting on a table. In an interior setting with an obstetric specimen [?] in the background to the right and draped curtain to the left.

Inscribed ‘Drawn by Francis Simonau. Engraved by C. Armstrong. JOHN HAIGHTON, M.D. & F.R.S. Lecturer on Midwifery & Physiology at Guys Hospital, 1819. Proof. Published as the Act directs by Benjn & Geoe Ridge & Co. Chichester, Sussex, May 1819.’

John Haighton (ca.1755-1823) British physiologist and surgeon, elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1815.
