Description
Half-length portrait of Richard Mead in three-quarter turn to the right and looking out to viewer. He is seated on an upholstered chair in an interior with columns and drapery. He wears a fine overcoat with ruffled cravat and full-length periwig.
Inscribed on paper support ‘R. Head MD. FRS not FRS.’
Richard Mead (1673-1754) British physician, elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1703 and served on the Council between 1705 and 1730.
