Head and shoulders portrait of William Hope turned to the right and looking out to viewer. He wears military uniform and has a mid-length wig with queue.
Inscribed ‘Engraved by H. R. Cook from a miniature in the possession of Lady Ann Hope. CAPTAIN WILLIAM JOHNSTONE HOPE. Published Octr. 31, 1807, by J. Gold 103 Shoe Lane London.’ Pencilled ‘1808’ on paper support.
William Johnstone Hope (1766-1831) British Royal Navy officer and politician, elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1808.
