Inscribed ‘WILLIAM HOPKINS, ESQ., M.A., PRESIDENT OF THE BRITISH ASSOCIATION, 1853.’
William Hopkins (1793-1866) British geologist and mathematician, elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1837 and served on the Council from 1861 to 1862.’
