Head and shoulders portrait of Abraham Gotthelf Kastner in right profile. He wears buckled wig and is dressed in a collarless jacket, waistcoat, ruffled shirt and necktie. In an oval frame.
Inscribed ‘Philo Mag. Pl.III. Vol. IX. C. Speclit Pinxt. K. Mackenzie sculp. A.G.KAESTNER.’ pencilled ‘1789’ lower left-hand corner.
Abraham Gotthelf Kastner (1719-1800) German mathematician and physicist, elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1789.
