Half-length portrait of Georges Louis Leclerc, Count of Buffon, inclined to the right and looking out to viewer. He wears a buckled wig and is dressed in fine clothes of embroidered waistcoat and braided jacket.
Inscribed ‘Engraved by Robert Hart. BUFFON. From an original Picture by Drouais in the collection of the Institute of France. Under the Superintendance for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge. London. Published by Charles Knight, Pall Mall, East.’ Pencilled ‘1739’ lower left hand corner.
