Half-length portrait of Dame Jean Thomas, standing and facing the viewer, smiling, and with folded arms. The sitter is dressed in black velvet and wears a silver double-helix pendant on a chain. This motif is picked up by the artist as a discrete background element. To the right and left are magenta phalaenopsis orchids.
