    Description
    Head and shoulders portrait of Colin Maclaurin inclined to the left as viewed. He wears curled periwig and is dressed in deep-collared coat and neckbands. In an oval frame with allegorical scene below in which a women in classical dress is seated with two globes, scientific instruments and mathematical symbols.

    Inscribed ‘Page sculp MACLAURIN, London Pubd. As the Act directs Novr. 1st. 1814 by G Jones.’

    Colin MacLaurin (1698-1746)) British mathematician, elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1719.
