In associated text, the author states: ‘This beautiful metal [aluminium] is considered to be far superior to platinum…for pyrological purposes'.
Inscribed: ‘London – E. & F. N. Spon, 48, Charing Cross. Thos. Kell, Lithographer. 40, King St., Covent Garden. SUBLIMATE OF GOLD ON ALUMINIUM PLATE.’
William Alexander Ross, (fl.1850-1870s) British soldier, was not a Fellow of the Royal Society.
