    The Art of Casting Metalls is so usefull in the World, that I hope the Royal Society will not Dislike my endeavours to Improve it by the following Contrivance.

    At the meeting of the Royal Society on 3 December 1684, ‘Dr. Papin brought in a draught of the manner of casting medals in vacuo’ (Birch 4:343). The account and figure are printed in Birch 4:343-44.
