    Description
Petrified shell found in a hill near Huy (Belgium), communicated by Renatus Slusius to Henry Oldenburg in a letter dated 24 October 1668. This is most likely the drawing accompanying the original letter (EL/S1/56), and transferred to the Letter Book.
    Object history
'I enclose the shape of one of them sketched (adumbratam) from either side, since the person who could make the sketch was at hand; only perhaps it was not so big. They are dug, I am told, five miles from here in a hill near Huum'. Correspondence of Henry Oldenburg, vol. 5, p. 90.
