Half-length portrait of Willem Jacob 's Gravesande in an oval frame, he wears a silk shirt with a long wig and is turned slightly towards the left. He has a cape draped over his right shoulder and a white cravat around his neck.

Willem Jacob 's Gravesande (1688-1742), Dutch mathematician and natural philosopher, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1715.
