    Jan Swammerdam's drawing of the pancreas of salmon in his letter dated 21 April 1673 [N.S.]. The letter was read at the meeting of the Royal Society on 16 April 1673.

    At the meeting of the Royal Society on 16 April, 1673, ‘Mr. Oldenburg read a letter written to him by Dr. Swammerdam, dated April 21, 1673, from Amsterdam, accompanied with some anatomical observations of his about the pancreas and pancreatic juice of several fishes; as also of an human foetus lately found at Rome between the ovarium and the tuba, contained with its usual integuments; the description and delineation whereof, he intimated, were then preparing at Rome’ (Birch 3:84).
