    Description
Charts and diagrams in a letter from John Wallis, dated at Oxford, to Henry Oldenburg concerning the centrobaric rule of Paul Guldin (1577-1643) and Wallis's own method in his Arithmetica infinitorum (1655).

Paul Guldin’s rule in Centrobaryca (1635-41) states that ‘If any plane figure revolve about an external axis in its plane, the volume of the solid so generated is equal to the product of the area of the figure and the distance travelled by the center of gravity of the figure’ (as explained in The Correspondence of Henry Oldenburg, ed. by Hall and Hall, vol. 10, p. 180n4).

The diagrams in the original letter are at EL/W2/12/001. They are copied at LBC/6/345-46.
