    Description
    Fossils from the Craven area drawn by William Lodge, who Martin Lister described as 'that ingenious Gentleman and excellent Artist, my very good friend'. The fossils were described by Lister in a letter to Henry Oldenburg dated 4 November 1673 at York. It was read at the meeting on 13 November 1673 and printed in Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, vol. 8, no. 100 (1674), pp. 6181-71.

    Object history
    At the meeting of the Royal Society on 13 November 1673, ‘Mr. Oldenburg read a paper of Mr. Lister, containing an account of some of the parts of certain stones figured like plants, together with thirty-seven figures, curiously drawn to represent the same’ (Birch 3:110).
