Description
Drawing of furnaces used in Hungary for burning, melting, and driving the ores, which accompanied the original letter from Edward Browne to Henry Oldenburg dated 8 March 1670 [N.S.], and was read to the Royal Society on 10 March 1670. Browne also sent along some samples of minerals.

Object history
At the meeting of the Royal Society on 10 March 1670, ‘Mr. Oldenburg produced a letter from Dr. Edward Brown, dated at Norwich, March 8, 1669/70, giving notice of some minerals sent by major Bendish, which were delivered at this meeting by the said major, and came accompanied with an answer to several queries formerly recommended to the Doctor, who also sent a draught and description of a burning, melting and driving furnace’ (Birch 2:427).
