    Description
    The front side of a Roman altar found south of the River Tyne, near Shields, in the bishopric of Durham. Martin Lister obtained this piece which had nine lines of inscription, and reported that each letter was little more than two inches deep. This is printed in Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, vol. 13, no. 145 (March 1683).
