Image related to Robert Boyle's experimentation with the air pump, about which he had first published in 1660 (New Experiments Physico-Mechanical, touching the Spring of the Air). The lines in the image show the different levels of various liquids in the tube of the air pump after extracting air from the tube.

Mr Boyle is Intreated to remember his Experiment of the aire.
There was a debate concerning the waters ascending the Tubes or syphons.
Dr Henshow made these severall tryalls, in one tube, with
