    Description
    A fair copy of a diploma of election to the fellowship of the Royal Society for Johannes Hevelius. The pencil drawings indicate the position of the coat of arms of the King, the portrait of Charles II and the coat of arms of the Royal Society, as well as the decorative features of the initial 'P'.
    Object history
    At the meeting of the Royal Society on 13 April 1664, ‘The secretary offered a draught of such a diploma, as is mentioned in the above-mentioned statue, with relation to Monsieur Hevelius; and it was read, and approved with some alterations’ (Birch 1:410), where the full text is also printed.
