    Head and shoulders portrait of Hallam, facing to the viewer’s right. The sitter has short hair, curled to the front and wears a fashionably high collar and tie, with jacket.

    Inscribed “Thomas Phillips Esqr. R.A. pinxt.1834. Printed by Graf & Soret. HENRY HALLAM ESQR.” In pencil lower left: “1821”

    Henry Hallam was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1821.
