    Description
Drawing on the back of a letter from Henry Justel to Edmond Halley. The letter concerns a recently published book from Paris about China with a description of Peking, and the heating of water using a ball of copper filled with an unspecified material. The letter was read to the Royal Society on 2 May 1688. The drawing appears to be unrelated to the contents of the letter.
    Object history
2 May 1688, 'There was read a note from Mr Justell concerning a manner of heating water by a ball of Copper filled with some materialls which conceive heat. The same mentions a book lately printed at Paris being a relation of China translated out of Portuguise, where in is a plan of the City of Peking made to a scale, whereby it appears to be much less than either Martinius or Dr Bossius represent it' (JBO/8/202-203).
