    Diagram in a copy of a letter from Francis Jessop to Martin Lister dated 3 February 1674, in which Jessop discusses the construction of an incomplete (he calls it a 'bastard') cycloid. Lister sent on the letter to Henry Oldenburg on 7 Febraruy 1674, but asked for the original letter to be returned to him. This is a copy in Oldenburg's hand.

    Francis Jessop (1638-1691) of Sheffield, a close friend of John Ray, was not a Fellow of the Royal Society but corresponded with the Society on topics such as tides and cycloids.
