Description
Drawing of a glass apparatus for distilling alchemical materials, in front of a schematic drawing of a furnace. This was attached to a letter by one Robert Selbie to Henry Oldenburg, which discusses various alchemical remedies for ailments.
Object history
This letter of late March 1671 from Robert Selby, most likely introduced to Oldenburg by Peter Nelson, is printed in The Correspondence of Henry Oldenburg, ed. by A. Rupert Hall and Marie Boas Hall, 13 vols (Madison: University of Wisconsin Press; London: Taylor and Francis, 1965-86), VII (1970), 532-34 (no. 1660), but the figures are not reproduced or discussed there.
