Description
A diagram showing the construction of a ventilation shaft for a coal mine, described in a letter by Renatus Franciscus Slusius to Henry Oldenburg. The letter was read at the meeting of the Royal Society on 19 February 1674.

At the meeting of the Royal Society on 19 February 1674, ‘Mr. Oldenburg read a letter to himself from Mons. Slusius, dated at Liege, 8th February 1673/4 N. S. containing an answer to the queries sent him by Sir Joseph Williamson’ (Birch 3:124). Text and figure printed in Birch 3:125-27.
