Description
Sketch of an optical plate, A-B, with two parallel flanges, consisting of an open hole, C, aligned with a glass lens, D.
Apparently based upon the simple line engraving illustrating the optical works of Niccolò Zucchi. However this slightly more sophisticated image is shaded and has the A-B-C-D of key elements of the instrument, lacking in Zucchi.
Michael Hunter in The Boyle Papers (2007) gives ‘hand unknown’ for the several sections of text by various authors within this small series of recipes and chemical processes among the papers of Robert Boyle.
