    Description
    Head and shoulders portrait of J H Hampe in an oval frame. Below is am inscription in Greek wound around a staff and laurel sprig. A snake is also coiled around the staff in the manner of the rod of Asclepius.

    Inscribed “Angelica Kauffmann pinx. T Burke fecit”. With a 27-line inscription below, commencing: “IOHANNES HENRICUS HAMPE SIEGENA-NASSOVICUS MEDICINAE DOCTOR DUIBURGENSIS CLIVORUM…”

    Johann Heinrich Hampe was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1729.
