    Description
Ink drawing of a gardenia with a flower and a branch with pistils, with smaller images of a section of seed-pod and seeds. The reverse of this paper is covered in red chalk. This image was printed in Daniel C. Solander, ‘An Account of the Gardenia: In a Letter to Philip Carteret Webb, Esq; F. R. S.’, Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, vol. 52 (1762), pp. 654-61. Solander explains that the figures were drawn from the specimens in the herbarium in the British Museum. ‘Fig. B’ was drawn from a specimen brought back from China by James Cunningham.
