Partial watercolour and pen-drawing of a hoopoe (Upupa epos) by Henry Hunt. This drawing could be related to the hoopoe skin donated by Frederick Slare at the meeting of the Royal Society on 23 September 1691.

Object history
This drawing could be related to the hoopoe skin donated by Frederick Slare. On 23 September 1691, 'Dr Slares Paper of the Description of the Upupa found not long since in Surrey near Darking was read, and the doctor had the thanks of the society for his Present of the skin of the Bird which severall have supposed never to be found in England' (JBO/9/56).
