    Head and shoulders portrait in gown, wig and falling bands. Oval surround with decorative acanthus top, engraved inscription within the surround, and coat of arms below.

    Inscribed: “IOHANNES HARRIS SAC. THEO. Pro. & R.S.S. A,Russel pinxit Geo: Vertue Sculp: 1719.” In pencil lower left “1696*

    Originally printed in Harris’s The history of Kent in Five Parts: volume 1 (London, 1719).

    John Harris was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1696.
