    Diagram in David Gregory's notes on Newton's Principia mathematica philosophicae naturalis (1687). Gregory worked on his commentary on Principia from 1687 for the rest of his life. Manuscript versions of the notes were in circulation, but were never published. The end of this section is dated 23 January 1693/94, Oxford.

    Gregory was the Savilian Professor of Astronomy at Oxford and author of Astronomiae physicae et geometricae elementa (Oxford, 1702). This volume of papers was given to the Royal Society in 1866.
